One video, no course
Overviews and transcripts work on any video, on any channel, before you've built anything.
An Overview and a transcript are about one video — not a channel. So the panel doesn't make you build a course first. Open any video on any channel and both are already there.
Where it is
On a watch page for a channel you haven't coursified, the panel opens with the Coursify this channel button, and directly under it a card labelled This video — the video you're watching, with the same Overview and Transcript buttons a course row would carry.
It also appears if a course build failed, so a bad run never leaves you with nothing usable on the page.
It won't start a course on its own
Nothing is wasted if you coursify later
This is the part worth knowing: whatever you build here is saved against the video, not against the card. Coursify the channel afterwards and that video's row in the course already reads “Overview ready” and opens instantly, with its transcript still cached.
- The Overview is stored by video ID, which is how the course looks it up too.
- The transcript lands in the same cache the Transcript button and the batch runner use.
- Overviews you spent here still count against that channel's free allowance — the count is kept per channel, whether or not a course exists yet.
What it costs
| On our shared keys | With your own key | |
|---|---|---|
| Transcript | Free and unlimited | Free and unlimited |
| Overview | Counts toward this channel's 3 free overviews and your 6-per-day limit | Unlimited |
| Building the course | One of your daily runs — only when you click it | Unlimited |
In other words the rules are the ones that apply everywhere else — there's no separate allowance for this card, and no loophole in it either. Limits & quotas →
How the card differs from a course row
- No checkbox. Progress is tracked against a course, and there isn't one yet. Build the course and the video becomes tickable.
- No “why this video is here” line. That reason comes from the AI placing it in a curriculum, which hasn't happened.
- Everything else is identical — it's the same card component the course uses, so the timestamps, the search, the Copy button and the free-tier messages all behave exactly as they will later.
