Panel — the in-page sidebar

Your course docked in YouTube's sidebar, with a “You are here” marker on the video you're watching.

The panel is the main way to use CoursifyYT. It renders directly on youtube.com — a floating button on channel pages, and a docked course in the sidebar on watch pages — so you never have to open the popup.

On a channel page

A small floating CoursifyYT button sits in the top-right corner of any channel page. What it does depends on whether that channel already has a course:

  • No course yet — clicking it opens a drawer with a Make Course button. Start the run and the drawer shows live progress; you can navigate away and it keeps going.
  • Course exists — the drawer opens straight to the course, with search, filters, progress and export.

On a watch page

The panel is inserted at the top of YouTube's right-hand column, above the suggestions, on every watch page. If that channel has a course, the course is what you see; if it doesn't, you get the offer to build one — and the per-video tools below it either way.

“You are here”

A breadcrumb at the top of the panel names the subject, module and topic the current video belongs to, and the video's own row is tagged NOW. Use the crosshair button in the header to scroll straight back to it in a long course.

Search & filter

The Filter syllabus, concepts… field searches titles, module names and concept labels. The discipline chips below it narrow the course to a single track. Both work on the largest courses without scrolling.

Resize & collapse

Drag the handle on the panel's left edge to widen it — YouTube's player shifts left to make room, and the width is remembered. The reset button restores the default; the collapse button folds the panel to its header.

Export & share

The same exports as the popup (Markdown, JSON, PDF, DOC) with your live progress baked in, plus a share button. Export →

Per-video actions

Every video row in the panel carries two buttons:

  • Overview — builds a timestamped map of what that video covers. On the video you're currently watching, clicking a timestamp seeks the live player; on any other video it deep-links into it. Overviews →
  • Transcript — shows the video's captions, timestamped and searchable, with no AI and no limits. Transcripts →
The two panels share one slot on the card, so opening either one closes the other. That's deliberate — it keeps the video row from growing to two screens tall.

No course on this channel yet?

You don't need one. On a watch page for a channel you've never coursified, the panel offers to build the course as usual — and below that, a This video card with the same two buttons, because an Overview and a transcript are about one video, not a whole channel.

  • Whatever you build there is saved against that video. Coursify the channel later and the video's row in the course already reads “Overview ready”, with its transcript still cached. Nothing is regenerated and nothing is lost.
  • The limits are the same ones that apply everywhere else: on our shared keys it counts toward this channel's free Overviews and toward your daily Overview limit. Transcripts stay free and uncapped. One video, no course →

The key icon

Beside Export sits a key icon. It glows amber while you're running on our shared keys. Clicking it opens the key setup screen for you — the panel can't host those fields itself, so it opens the extension popup (or a tab, on older Chrome versions) with the field focused. API keys →

It follows you around

  • Start a course on a channel page, then click a video — the watch-page panel picks up the same run in progress and keeps showing it. The run is not tied to the tab or the popup.
  • Anything you tick, generate or open in the panel is the same data the popup and the feed bar read. There is no syncing step.

If the panel doesn't appear

YouTube is a single-page app and occasionally re-renders the sidebar out from under us. A page reload always fixes it. See Troubleshooting.
